What is Room for Questions?

Room for Questions is a regular discussion evening at the Anglican Church in Bucharest, created as a space where curiosity is welcomed and difficult questions are taken seriously. It is a place to think together about faith, humanity, ethics, and the world we live in – without pressure to agree, believe, or arrive at tidy answers.
Each gathering centres around a single, open-ended question, offering room for reflection, dialogue, and listening across different perspectives.

What do we talk about?

Our conversations often begin with contemporary issues and lead into deeper human and spiritual questions. Recent topics have included:

  • What do we want artificial intelligence to do for us – and why?
  • How to read the Old Testament?
  • What is Nature? Are we part of Nature?
  • What do we mean by the soul? Is that what defines us as human?
  • What is prayer? How does prayer work?

Discussions are shaped by those in the room, and no two evenings are ever the same.

Who is it for?

Room for Questions is for anyone:

  • curious about faith or spirituality
  • interested in ethics, technology, and society
  • comfortable with uncertainty and open conversation
  • unsure what they believe—or sure, but willing to listen

You do not need to be Anglican, Christian, or religious to take part.
Everyone is welcome, and all questions are welcome.

Most of us, at least theoretically, think forgiveness is a good thing, but what is it really?
Are there things that are unforgiveable? For us? For God?

Come to this important dialogue with your questions and experiences. Bring your friends as well!

This Sunday, through Fr. Nevsky’s sermon, we refle This Sunday, through Fr. Nevsky’s sermon, we reflected on one of the most familiar and comforting images in the Gospel: Jesus as the Good Shepherd.

But beyond the peaceful image of green pastures, we were reminded that this is not a sentimental picture. It is one of courage, sacrifice, and deep, personal love, a shepherd who knows each sheep by name, and whose voice they recognise.

At the heart of this image is calling, vocation.
To be called by God is not reserved for a select few, nor only for ordained ministry. Each of us is called, in the midst of our daily lives, work, relationships, and responsibilities, to listen for God’s voice and to respond.

We are not called to do extraordinary things in dramatic ways, but to do ordinary things with extraordinary love.

As part of this shared calling, we also marked an important moment in the life of our church:
Richard and Monica made their declarations and were admitted as Churchwardens, taking on this ministry of service and responsibility within our community. Please keep them in your prayers as they begin this role.

The Good Shepherd is calling each of us.
May we learn to recognise His voice and follow.

Fr Nevsky's book, Ways of Seeing, was launched at Fr Nevsky's book, Ways of Seeing, was launched at @librariile_carturesti yesterday evening. Fr Nevsky spoke about the ways we can encounter God and one another in opening ourselves up to the richness of other Christian traditions, and his book offers a bridge to help Anglicans (and others) to understand better Orthodoxy.

We had a lively discussion and copies are available from Cărturești & Friends!
