The Anglican Church of Bucharest
The Church of the Resurrection, Bucharest is an official historic monument (B-II-m-A-19833) recognised both for its cultural significance as well as its architectural beauty.
Built for Bucharest’s British community just before the First World War with the help of the future Queen Marie of Romania, the church was designed by renowned architect Victor Ștefănescu.
The Church of the Resurrection stands out through its red-brick Gothic Revival architecture, a style popular in Victorian England and rarely encountered in Bucharest. Inside, the church’s simple white walls creates a beautiful contrast with the rich, dark tones of the original wood panelling, choir stalls, and altar rails imported from England. Its single nave is both intimate and uplifting with its Neo-Gothic arches, high barrel vault coffered wood ceiling, and tall lancet windows.
Help us care for this historic building
The Church of the Resurrection receives no regular financial support from either the British or
Romanian governments. The upkeep of this historic building depends on the generosity of our
community, friends, and those who use the space.
Our Church as an Event Space
In addition to liturgical events, such as baptisms, weddings, and funerals, in the past, our
church has hosted concerts, book launches, architectural tours, professional annual gatherings,
and more. It has also been a filming location for movies, commercials, and music videos.
The church can accommodate up to 90 people under current fire regulations and has a basic
kitchen that can be used as a green room, as well as one unisex bathroom.

The views and opinions expressed by performers, speakers, and event participants are their own and do not necessarily reflect those of the Church of the Resurrection or the Church of England. However, the space may not be used for unlawful, discriminatory, sexually explicit, or otherwise inappropriate content or activities, and approval is at the discretion of the Chaplain and Church Council.
2 Also, as a consecrated Church of England building, events of a religious/spiritual nature that do not conform to Christian Trinitarian orthodoxy are not permitted under Canon Law.

Planning a wedding can be both joyful and overwhelming. We are here to help you organise the religious ceremony with warmth, care, and clarity. The priest will guide you through the Anglican marriage service and assist with preparations, rehearsal, and legal requirements where needed.

The loss of a loved one is a tender time, and the Church is here to support you in prayer, care, and practical guidance. Our priest will work with you to plan a meaningful funeral or memorial service, including readings, hymns, tributes, and pastoral support.
