The Anglican Church of Bucharest, Romania

Inclusivity at the Anglican Church of the Resurrection

At the Anglican Church of the Resurrection in Bucharest, we believe that every person is made in the image of God and is worthy of dignity, welcome, and care. We are committed to being a church community where people can encounter hospitality, prayer, friendship, and honest conversation, regardless of background or personal journey.

A diverse community

Ours is an international Anglican congregation, bringing together people from many countries, traditions, and walks of life. Some members have been Christian for many years; others are exploring faith for the first time. Some come from Anglican backgrounds, while others come from Orthodox, Catholic, Protestant, or non-religious contexts. We believe this diversity is not a problem to overcome, but a gift to receive with gratitude.ork with children, young people, or vulnerable adults are safely recruited and receive regular safeguarding training.

Tradition & Reflection

The Anglican tradition has long held together Scripture, tradition, reason, and pastoral care in conversation with one another. In recent decades, many Anglican churches around the world have engaged in deeper reflection on questions of inclusion, belonging, accessibility, mental health, gender, sexuality, disability, and the role of the Church in an increasingly complex and diverse society. While perspectives across the Anglican Communion are not identical, there has been a growing desire in many places to ensure that churches are communities where people are listened to, treated with compassion, and welcomed without fear or exclusion.

All are welcome

At the Church of the Resurrection, we seek to embody that spirit of welcome in practical and meaningful ways. We want to be a church where:

  • all are welcomed with kindness and respect
  • questions can be asked honestly
  • people are not reduced to labels or assumptions
  • cultural and denominational differences are treated with care
  • children and vulnerable people are safeguarded and protected
  • faith and doubt can exist in conversation
  • community is built through grace rather than perfection;

YOU are welcome!

Inclusivity, for us, is not about abandoning Christian faith, but about trying to reflect more faithfully the hospitality of Christ himself. We recognise that people arrive carrying different experiences of church, belief, identity, and belonging. We do not expect everyone to think alike, but we do ask that we approach one another with humility, generosity, and love.
Whether you are deeply rooted in faith, uncertain about belief, new to church, visiting Bucharest, or simply looking for a place of peace and prayer – you are welcome here.

We had a glorious Evensong this Sunday, and we hop We had a glorious Evensong this Sunday, and we hope to celebrate it more often in the future. Our choir, coordinated by Clare and accompanied by Adina, truly moved our souls and we are deeply grateful for their ministry among us.

The spiritual value of Evensong lies in the music that lifts our hearts to heaven, in its emphasis on Holy Scripture and in the space it provides for prayerful reflection.

In his sermon, Father Nevsky reminded us that God meets us with mercy, just as He met the Prophet Isaiah in his vision of the Lord. Filled with God's mercy, we are called to praise Him not only with purified lips, but with hearts wholly given over to Him.

May we dedicate ourselves anew to the service to which we are called, just as Isaiah did when he answered: “Here am I; send me!”

Jesus asked his disciples, 'Who do you say that I Jesus asked his disciples, 'Who do you say that I am?'

In our second Faith Basics session, Fr Nevsky explored the different ways the writers of the New Testament sought to answer this question, with examples from the 'I am' sayings of John's Gospel, the Christological hymn in Philippians 2, the High Priestly imagery of Hebrews and the identification of God and the Lamb in Revelation.

We looked at some of the controversies around the identity of Jesus in the Early Church, and asked ourselves why these matter. We came to see the Bible not just as a text to be studied, but as an invitation into a relationship with Jesus, the Living Word.

Next session is next Sunday, June 7, on the theme of The Spirit and the Church.
Today’s Trinity Sunday sermon, preached by Clare, Today’s Trinity Sunday sermon, preached by Clare, invited us to reflect on one of Christianity’s deepest mysteries through something surprisingly simple: the names of God.

Beginning with God’s self-revelation as “I AM” in the burning bush, Clare explored how the names we find in Scripture help us understand who God is. Jesus is Emmanuel – “God with us” – and the Holy Spirit is our Comforter and Helper, God’s continuing presence in our lives.

Using a beautiful illustration of a father and son connected by a bond of love, we were reminded that the love shared between the Father and the Son reaches out into the world through the Holy Spirit, drawing all of us into God’s life and fellowship.

The Trinity is not merely a doctrine to be explained, but a relationship of love into which we are invited.

And at the heart of today’s Gospel is Christ’s promise:

“Remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Father, Son and Holy Spirit – one God, whose love surrounds us, sustains us, and remains with us always.

In this Sunday’s session, Jesus the Word, we’ll ask the question, ‘Who is Jesus?’ and see how the Bible helps us to respond. We’ll explore the rich tapestry of writings that make up the Bible, and how we are to read and understand them. In the great ark of the Scriptural story, we will see that we are not just studying a text, but invited into a relationship and communion with Jesus, the Living Word.
